EURORDIS Rare Disease Day 2021

Rare Disease Day is the official international campaign for rare diseases taking place on the last day of February each year. The main aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among the general public and decision-makers about rare diseases and their impact on patients' lives.

Initiated by EURORDIS and its Council of National Alliances, the very first Rare Disease Day took place in 2008 with events in 18 participating countries. Patient organisations from North America joined in 2009 and then all continents by 2010. Since then, the number of participating countries has increased each year, with thousands of events taking place on all continents for on or around the month of February.

The key message for Rare Disease Day 2021 is:
Rare is many.
Rare is strong.
Rare is proud.

Everyone related to the rare disease community is invited to show solidarity with people living with a rare disease and to help raising awareness. There are many possibilities to do so, like sharing a photo on social media using #RareDiseaseDay and tag @rarediseaseday, by making the Rare Disease Day Logo visible online, by sharing your story of living with a rare disease or caring for someone that does or by submitting a written or video testimony on the Rare Disease Day website.
